After the success of a recent canal boat trip for Halton Haven Hospice day patients, the Hospice has launched a text campaign to raise money for future day trips to ensure all Day Hospice patients with life limiting illnesses get to experience a precious day out.
Angela Goulding, Senior Staff Nurse at the Hospice comments on how much the canal boat trip meant to the patients: “The day was absolutely superb, we started at 9 in the morning, had lunch and arrived back at the Hospice at around 5. Everybody absolutely loved it – the smiles on the patient’s faces said it all. A lot of our patients don’t go out that often so it meant so much to these people.”

“A patient said to me the other day, ‘I used to be a somebody, and now I’m just a nobody.’ Our job at the Hospice is to make patients continue to feel like they are a ‘somebody’. Day trips like this make them feel normal, makes people whole, it’s about allowing people to continue to live.”
“Some of patients have got limited prognosis, to have these days out – they really are precious.”
“We have around 48 Day Hospice Patients a week, and we were able to take 8 out, it would be absolutely brilliant if we could raise enough money so that every single one of our patients could experience a day out.”
For just £200, 8 patients and 4 staff members can experience a day trip like going on a barge.
