This event is not for the faint hearted as the bike ride will cover over 160 miles and you be challenged to complete this in just two days. This challenge will test how fit you really are. Is this not the perfect way to get in better shape in the New Year whilst raising much needed funds for two fantastic charities?

The bike ride will take place on the 2^nd and 3^rd of June. It will cover the demanding Trans Pennine Trail starting at the Hull KR stadium, bright and early on the Saturday morning and will finish back at the Stobart Stadium Halton in Widnes on Sunday afternoon.

Halton Haven Hospice

Halton Haven Hospice cares for people aged eighteen years and over with life-limiting illnesses living in Halton and surrounding areas. We provide support to patients and their families according to their individual needs. As a Charity, we make no charge for any of our services.

Whilst we have a contract with the local Primary Care Trust (PCT), the majority of our income comes from the generosity of the local community. Situated in beautiful grounds in Runcorn, we have 12 in-patient beds and 60 places a week in our Day Hospice; over the last 29 years Halton Haven Hospice has cared for and supported thousands of local people in Halton.

The Mark Gorry Foundation was set up in 2009 by Mark Gorry during his battle with Testicular Cancer. The foundation has two main goals, the first is to positively impact the future of cancer treatment through a range of fundraising activity. In their first 18 months MGF have given over £60,000 to cancer services and people affected by cancer.

The second goal is to educate men on the signs and symptoms of Testicular Cancer, and to promote & encourage self examination. The Mark Gorry Foundation take their Ball Squad to school, colleges, workplaces and shopping centres with signs and symptoms encouraging men to love their ‘balls’.

They say that three is the magic number!

Well this has certainly been proven with Halton Haven’s star volunteers; Betty, Kath and Dot. Their hard work and determination has paid off by successfully raising £1298.60 at Christmas by selling gifts on their annual ‘Christmas Table’. This has greatly beaten previous amounts raised and has helped raise vital funds for the Hospice. What a fantastic way to end such a special year for the Hospice.

Our star volunteers were recognised for their commitment and service to the Hospice last year when they won the prestigious; ‘Halton Haven Hospice Volunteer Long Service Award’. The award was given to Betty, Kath and Dot at Halton Haven’s 30^th Birthday and Awards Evening. A massive thank you from the Hospice for all their hard work, continuous support and time they give to Halton Haven.

You must be a keen cyclist to take part and are required to have a high level of fitness. If this is you then the closing date for entries is the 30^th January and you will be notified if you have a place by the 6^th February.

First date for your new calendar – Sunday 9th December 2012.

The event on the 11th December 2011 saw over 500 Santa’s taking part which not only created a fantastic
atmosphere but the event also raised over £10,000 – vital funds for Halton Haven Hospice.

Event Manager, Ciaran Clottworthy said “People have already been asking us if there will be a Santa Dash next year. After such a successful first event and with so many people supporting the hospice we are pleased to confirm there will definately be a Halton Haven Hospice Santa Dash 2012.”

The hospice will have various events throughout the year so please listen out and come join in. Your support is vital to keep the hospice running.

The winner of the Nintendo Wii was Mrs Southgate, 55, from Runcorn who said; “It has been a pleasant surprise, the Nintendo Wii will cheer my family up over the Christmas period, many thanks to the Hospice.”

The lottery has been a great success for the Hospice; it has generated valuable income and has also created worthy winners of fantastic prizes throughout the year. It helps raise vital funds of £47,000 each year which allows the Hospice to offer services free of charge and provide exceptional care and support to the Halton community.

The event ran smoothly with the Silver Jubilee Bridge only closed for 15
minutes to allow the group of Santa’s to run across the main centre of the
bridge in celebration of the Bridges 50th Anniversary.
Despite the damp weather, it did not dishearten the Santa’s spirits. The event
saw over 500 Santa’s taking part on the day which not only created a fantastic
atmosphere but the event also raised vital funds for Halton Haven Hospice.
There was also a prize for the best ‘pimped out’ costume which was provided
by Dimma.com and was awarded to Margery Shorleson.
Ciaran Clotworthy, Events Manager from Halton Haven said; “We would like
to thank all the Santa’s and volunteers that took part as without them, it
wouldn’t have been the success it was!”
Halton Haven Hospice would like to say a big thank you to Halton Borough
Council, Cheshire Constabulary, Halton Housing Trust and Anthonys Travel
for all their support and without their help this event would not have taken
place.
All monies raised will go direct to the Hospice in order to provide their special

This Sunday 11th December 2011 will see hundreds of residents dressed in Santa outfits taking part in a 5k fun run through Widnes and Runcorn in aid of Halton Haven Hospice.

The Santa Dash entry fee is £20 for adults and only £10 for 9 to 15 year olds making this a family event. Registration cost includes Santa suit and a medal upon completion.

If you have not already registered – entry desks will be open on the morning of the event at 7.30am at Spike Island Visitor Centre.

The Dash will begin at 9am prompt.

The Runcorn and Widnes Jubilee Bridge will be closed for 20 mins in order to allow the group of Santa’s to run across the centre of the bridge in celebration of the Bridges 50th Anniversary.

Santa Suit Collection

Santa Suits are now available for collection from the Events Team, who are based at the Widnes Shop, 67-71 Widnes Road, Widnes, Cheshire, WA8 6AZ

The shop opening hours are 9 am – 4 pm Monday – Saturday

On Wednesday 7^th, Thursday 8^th and Friday 9^th December the shop will stay open till 7 pm in order for anyone who cannot get to the shop before 4 pm

Alternatively, if none of these times are convenient, the Santa suits will be available to collect on the morning of the Dash from the Spike Island visitors centre, please make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to pick up a suit on the morning if you are choosing this option.

Parking

Parking is available on Spike Island and once the car park has no more spaces we would ask you to use the surrounding industrial areas.  If these areas fill up then you are to utilise the car parking facilities at the Municiple car park on Cauldwell Road, Widnes.

Starting Line

On the morning of the Dash please make your way to the Spike Island Visitors Centre, where you will be directed towards the starting line by the marshals on the day.  The start time of the race is 9 am prompt.

Route

The route is manned by marshals, who will be clearly visible along the route

Finishing Line

The finishing line is just in front of St Paul Pharmacy on High Street, Runcorn.  After crossing the finishing line you will be directed towards the Brindley car park where you will receive your finisher’s medal and a mince pie.

Transport back to Widnes

For people who are parking in Widnes and need transport back once the dash has been completed, Anthony’s Travel, a local coach operator has kindly offered to transport people back over the bridge free of charge.  Please be aware that this service will wait for the coach to be full before travelling back over to Widnes.

Residents of Runcorn, Widnes and Frodsham will once again meet at Halton Haven Hospice to remember someone special at this time of year.

The 30ft tree will be situated in the beautiful grounds of the Hospice and its lights will shine for the 12 days of Christmas. Friends and family are welcome to visit the tree at any time during the duration of the light up.

Highfield Male Voice Choir and Astmoor Primary School Choir will be amongst those singing hymns on the evening. The Mayor of Halton will also be in attendance.

Halton Haven do not charge any fees for this event, it’s open to all. However we do ask for a donation if you wish to light a candle of remembrance.  Donation forms can be collected at the hospice.

Halton Haven would like to stress that the event is not just for people who have been directly touched by the work of the Hospice. This is a local event for guests to show their love and remembrance for someone special.

Shaun Pollard from Halton Haven explained, “Light up a Life is a wonderful event to be a part of, as it truly begins Christmas for me. It’s a simple yet very moving service, and means so much to people who have lost someone, whether it’s recently or several years ago, at the Hospice or not. To come to the event and show your support for your local charity whilst remembering a loved one is fantastic. I want to invite everyone to come to the Hospice on the 2^nd December and be a part of something wonderful.”

On the night guests can also sample a range of stalls, with all proceeds going to the Hospice.
